The white city

Located 42 km from Brindisi, Ostuni rises on the Valle D’Itria at 218 meters from the sea and on its coast the famous Blue Flag flies.
Called “The White City” due to the characteristic and unique color with lime painting of the ancient village.
The Ancient Village, full of narrow streets, offers picturesque and picturesque picturesque backgrounds among alleys, steep staircases, courtyards and small squares with houses, shops, shops and typical restaurants.
At the center of the old city is the Cathedral dedicated to “Santa Maria dell’Assunzione”, begun to be built in 1435 and completed between 1970 and 1975, in a Roman-Gothic style on which a large 24-ray rosor stands out predominantly .
The beaches of Ostuni, with a total length of 17 km, in which there are alternately sandy coves, rocks, pebble beaches and dunes, have allowed the “Blue Flag” license for 25 years in a row between 1994 and 2019 in many shores of the Ostuni coast.
Not only Blue Flag, Ostuni also has the merit of having had the “Flag of the pediatricians” license, that is the recognition for having the most suitable beaches for children.
Of great tradition, we can find the festival dedicated to the patron saint of the city of Ostuni Sant’Oronzo, which according to legend, saved the Ostunesi in 1700 from the danger of the plague that devastated Puglia.
He is celebrated from August 25th to 27th, with many demonstrations, events and processions in which the “Cavalcata” stands out, an event in which the municipal authorities and members of the clergy parade on horses with men and women in medieval clothes carrying the sacred statue of the Saint.
In addition to the patronal feast, a sanctuary was also dedicated to him in Sant’Oronzo, named precisely “Santuario di Sant’Oronzo”, which according to tradition, would be the place where the patron saint found refuge during his persecution.
