At the center of the old city is the Cathedral dedicated to “Santa Maria dell’Assunzione”, begun to be built in 1435 and completed between 1970 and 1975, in a Roman-Gothic style on which a large 24-ray rosor stands out predominantly.

Of great tradition, we can find the festival dedicated to the patron saint of the city of Ostuni Sant’Oronzo, which according to legend, saved the Ostunesi in 1700 from the danger of the plague that devastated Puglia.

He is celebrated from August 25th to 27th, with many demonstrations, events and processions in which the “Cavalcata” stands out, an event in which the municipal authorities and members of the clergy parade on horses with men and women in medieval clothes carrying the sacred statue of the Saint.

In addition to the patronal feast, a sanctuary was also dedicated to him in Sant’Oronzo, named precisely “Santuario di Sant’Oronzo”, which according to tradition, would be the place where the patron saint found refuge during his persecution.
